Everything you need to know about cleaning your Lifestraw Go bottle

At Outdoor Food, we're proud to be the largest Lifestraw retailer in the Benelux. In our showroom in Capelle aan den IJssel, you can not only get advice but also pick up your Lifestraw Go bottle right away. On this page, we explain how to best care for your bottle, so you're always guaranteed clean and safe drinking water – wherever your adventure takes you.

Why is cleaning important?

The Lifestraw Go is designed to provide you with clean drinking water anywhere in the world. Whether you're hiking, camping, or traveling, the integrated filter technology does its job. But as with any reusable water bottle, it's important to clean it regularly. This keeps your bottle hygienic, extends the filter's lifespan, and prevents contamination of your drinking water.

We recommend cleaning the bottle weekly, especially with intensive use.

Step-by-step: how to clean the Lifestraw Go
1. Remove the filter

Unscrew the cap and remove the filter from the bottle. The carbon capsule (if present) is usually located at the top of the filter – carefully remove it.

2. Clean the mouthpiece

Make a solution of ¼ teaspoon of bleach in 500 ml of water. Soak the nozzle in this solution for 5 to 10 minutes. Then use warm water and dish soap to thoroughly clean it.

3. Rinse the filter

Rinse the membrane microfilter with clean water – never use soap, as this can affect the filter's effectiveness.

4. Let everything dry

Allow all parts to dry thoroughly before reassembling the bottle.

Quick cleaning on the go

No water or bleach on hand? Use an unscented antibacterial wipe to temporarily clean the mouthpiece. Make sure it's completely dry before drinking again.

Is the Lifestraw Go dishwasher safe?

Yes, the bottle itself is dishwasher safe – without the filter or carbon capsule . Ideal for a quick, thorough clean.

Replacing a filter – how and when?

The Lifestraw Go features a powerful membrane microfilter that can purify up to 4,000 liters of water. This means you can use it for years without needing a replacement under normal use. When it's time to replace the filter, you can easily order a new one from us that fits perfectly in your bottle.
